To savor the joys of freshwater water sports, head to Sainte-Suzanne. The town, already magnificently endowed with waterfalls and pools, has also been equipped with an artificial whitewater stadium!
Here, everyone calls it “SEVI”. Inaugurated in 2013, this intercommunal whitewater stadium takes the form of a river approximately 250m long, whose flow is human controlled. Descent by canoe-kayak or raft is thus made easier (low flow), or on the contrary prevented by the creation of violent currents (high flow). Practical and fun, at the end of the route, a “conveyor belt” takes the boats back to the starting point. Note the presence of lifeguards throughout the course.
High-level athletes have a blast because the Sévi represents a fantastic, perfectly secure training ground for them. The general public and schools have gradually become familiar with this equipment, new to La Réunion and unique in the Indian Ocean, at a more than reasonable price: only €6 for 1h30 of activity! An outdoor activity to try urgently.
For those who prefer to evolve in the natural setting of a mountain river, the Bassin Bœuf canyon is made for them. This is one of the few canyoning sites perfectly suited to beginners and families with young children (from 12 years old), since there is a short and a long version. There, no boats since the descent of the canyon consists of progressing in the bed of a watercourse with waterfalls. To do this, you will walk, swim, jump, and use ropes for abseiling or zip lines. At Bassin Boeuf, the approach walk is very fast. You immediately enter the fun aspect of the activity, consisting of jumps of different heights, spider-wire rappels, and an unforgettable finale consisting of a 35m zip line… with a water landing! Several service providers offer to support you in this discovery: Envergure reunion and Adventure reunion .
