Bassin Boeuf in a green waterfall

The whole family can easily access the ”Bassin Boeuf”. You will have to go up the watercourse from stone to stone. After about 300 meters, you will see a path along the banks (on the left). By following it, the path is much easier. After about a quarter of an hour you will arrive in front of the pond itself. The originality of this hike is to reach the Saint Suzanne River by jumping from stone to stone... but this is also what makes it so difficult for people who lack balance !

A few large rocks will allow you to picnic comfortably. From the ”Bassin Boeuf”, it’spossible to access the ”Bassin Grondin” by going around the basin to the right, the path goes down a steep path into the feet of jambrosades (in Reunion, any tree is called “pied de…” Ex. : Litchi plant, mango plant, etc.) bordering the waterfall. Watch for the tops of the branches! Ripe jambrosades taste like rose water and lychee. A refreshing delight. Arriving at the top of “Bassin Bœuf”, follow the river to the next basin. The return takes place via the same route.

OUR ADVICES

From the Route des Hauts, you will see in the distance the series of wind turbines of the Perrière farm. The ecological transition is underway in the Beau Pays.

This site is also the starting point for an introductory canyoning course: Slide, abseiling, jumps, and to finish a zip line course...with water landing... Absolutely worth trying! Contact the Northern Intercommunal Tourist Office for information.
